Saturday April 6th 2013. 9.30am to 4.30pm £85.00 per person.
If you want to learn how to get beyond the “point and shoot” phase with your digital camera, but are confused by its complexity, join us on this digital camera course for beginners in the Derbyshire village of Cromford. No matter what type of digital camera you use – compact, bridge, mirrorless or digital slr – on this one day workshop you will learn solid, practical photographic techniques that work not only with your current camera, but also any other type of camera you may own in the future. You will learn how to take control of your camera’s controls for setting exposure and focus, about shutter speeds and lens apertures, and how to ensure you get more predictable results more of the time. You will also be given a printed sheet for your particular make and model of camera, telling you how to adjust the most important settings that we will be learning to use on the day.
The course is being taught by Chris James, who is a professional photographer based in Derbyshire with over 20 years’ experience. He numerous photo credits have included magazines such as The Great Outdoors, Country Walking and Derbyshire Life and Countryside, as well as many national newspapers. His work has also appeared on calendars, postcards and greetings cards, as well as in books across the world.
This one day course will be held at Arkwright’s Mill, in the Derbyshire village of Cromford, which is a World Heritage Site and home to the world’s first water powered cotton spinning mill. Among the wealth of subjects for you to practice your photography technique on are industrial architecture, flowing water, a canal wharf, and lots of ducks! You’ll be able to review your photographs straight away on the laptop that we will bring along on the day, and also see how your images can easily be improved using basic photo editing techniques.
Cromford is easily accessed by car from anywhere in Derbyshire, as it is situated on the A6 to the south of Matlock, and also by rail from Sheffield, Derby or Nottingham (Cromford Station is only a couple of minutes’ walk away). There will be little walking involved on this course, as everything we need is right on site. For lunch, there is an excellent cafe at Arkwright’s Mill itself, several other cafes or pubs in Cromford, or you can bring a packed lunch if you prefer.
The cost for the day will be £85.00 per person (not including lunch), and the course will be limited to a maximum of six persons.
