Landscape Photography Workshop in Lathkill Dale

This course has now taken place, but you can see details of all our other courses over the coming months here.

This course will be limited to just four photographers – so everyone will receive plenty of individual attention and have their questions answered. Please contact us if you would like a booking form.

This one day workshop is being held in Lathkill Dale, a beautiful limestone valley in the heart of the Peak District. Spring is one of the best times of year to see it, when the early flowers carpet the floor of the woodlands and the leaves on the trees are just starting to open.

The dale (most of which is a National Nature Reserve) has a wide range of subjects for us photographers – from the numerous weirs used to manage the water levels on the river, to Lead mining remains photographed on a Peak District landscape photography course. Photo © Chris Jameswaterfalls, woodlands, caves and impressive limestone cliffs. It has also been the scene of industrial activity for hundreds of years, and the remains of the two largest lead mines are today a Scheduled Monument for their significance. One of them still has the parts of a large steam engine house standing, while the visible remains of most of the other features have been made more attractive for photography by being reclaimed and softened by nature during the 170 years since mining here finished. Peak District Photography Courses for Beginners

If you want to learn how to get beyond the “point and shoot” phase with your digital camera, but are confused by its complexity, join us on one of these digital photography courses for beginners in the beautiful Derbyshire Peak District.

Over the winter months, we are running our beginners level courses at Tansley, near Matlock. Please click here for further details.

To ensure plenty of individual attention from the tutor, as well as to ensure adequate social distancing, this beginners’ course is limited to just 5 places, which cost £99.00 per person.

We will visit two different locations during the day (both of which are only a short and easy walk from where we will park our cars), and the course will continue until shortly after sunset.

This course is not just for owners of digital slrs – it is suitable for any digital camera provided it can be used in other than “all-auto” or “scene” modes – whether it is a compact, bridge, mirrorless or dslr – on this one day workshop you will learn solid, practical photographic techniques that will be relevant not only to your current camera, but also any other type of camera you may own in the future. Tripods will be available to borrow if you don’t already have one.

“I really enjoyed the course on Saturday.  I learnt a lot and it was fun!  You had such enthusiasm, both for the location and photography in general.  I was impressed that you made the teaching relevant to each of our camera models rather than more general.  I have been telling my friends all about how good it was….”

On this course, you will learn how to take control of your camera’s basic settings for exposure using shutter speeds, lens apertures and ISO, and adjust colour and focus to ensure you get more consistent and predictable results more of the time. You will also be given a printed sheet for your particular make and model of camera, telling you in plain English exactly how to adjust the most important settings that we will be learning to use on the day.

Please contact us if you would like a booking form for this course. Continue reading “Peak District Photography Courses for Beginners”

Monsal Dale Landscape Photography Course

This course has now taken place, but you can see details of all the other courses we currently have scheduled here.

Saturday September 12th – 10.00am to 6.00pm. £90.00 per person. This course will be limited to just four people.

Monsal Viaduct in Derbyshire is the location for the Peak District beginners photography course being run by Peak Digital TrainingMonsal Dale is one of the finest of the Peak District valleys, and it looks particularly beautiful in the soft light of late summer and early autumn. Although it is probably best known for its viaduct, on this course we will be concentrating more on its high and impressive weir, which is an excellent location for practising photographing moving water and long exposures. There is access to both sides of the river thanks to a nearby footbridge, and (if the water levels are low enough) there is a rock shelf jutting out into the river which allows different angles and close approaches to the base of the weir itself, as well as reflections in the pools of water. The location used for our course has some wonderfully photogenic old buildings

This one day course is being run exclusively for Nikon dslr users in the beautiful Derbyshire Peak District. Join fellow Nikon shooters at a wonderfully remote cottage which a previous student described as “amazing” (see here for more details). It is situated well away from the nearest road, with its own car parking, and the site has protected status for both its archaeological and environmental importance. There is a fantastic range of subjects right outside the cottage door – including very photogenic ruined industrial buildings and rare wild flowers. The site is also a superb location for open skies and sunsets, and there will be the option of staying on until dusk (at approx. 8.00 pm) if conditions are good.
